This book was amazing and as someone who is very picky about their books I don’t say that a lot. What I originally thought was going to be a romance focused solely around the FMC and her MMC counterpart, became a story about sisterhood and self discovery. The book also addresses an issue that many women face but is seldom talked about (anorgasmia). The FMC didn’t just rely on a man or give up; she looked deep into herself to work on her own baggage. Not letting her ex push her around and taking care of herself first leads the FMC to finding a supportive group of friends and a deeper understanding of who she is and what she wants out of life and relationships. I won’t spoil the ending but I think you will be pleasantly surprised, I know I was. It reminded me that the greatest thing that we can do is surround ourselves with great friends and to put ourselves out there, to go after what we want and that just maybe things will turn out the way they should. In short it was an unexpected conglomeration of girl power, self discovery and romance.

I enjoyed the fact that there really weren’t any editing issues, plot holes, or inconsistencies. The book was an easy read and was entertaining. However, it seemed to have lost the main plotline which was supposed to be revenge. The characters also didn’t have any sort of build up in connection or conversation (at least that was apparent to the reader) before they slept together. The book was also a bit kinky which was not made known to the reader beforehand. One thing I really enjoyed about the book (and the reason it made it onto my website) is that the FMC had a disability. As someone who also has a disability it was great to see some representation. Disabilities are rarely seen in books, especially in a FMC of a romance novella.

Broody Mountain Man Tropes

We all know that the broody mountain man lumberjack is a big favorite among the instalove romance readers, here are a few of my favorites. Rica Lane is highly featured as one of my favorite authors in this genre.

This book drew me in as soon as I read that the FMC was a sassy, curvy journalist (as someone who fits that criteria I love books that let me relate to the characters). I was also drawn in by the secretiveness of the grumpy billionaire, because who doesn’t love a scandal? The scandal in question was a plot twist that actually made me tear up. It gave a greater depth to the characters than I was expecting from a book that was listed as a less than 2 hour read. I wish there was a little more build up in the romantic relationship between the MMC and FMC but if you are looking for an instalove romance this is definitely a good choice. I can also see this as a good starting point for a spinoff for other characters that made appearances. I did download the bonus epilogue which I would recommend doing as well. Unfortunately there were several characters mentioned that we are supposed to know who they are but they did not make an appearance in the main book which was a little confusing, but overall it gave the plotline a little extra closure. I also give bonus points for the line “put me down, you overgrown lumberjack” simply because it made me laugh.

Once again Rica Lane has knocked it out of the park. She seamlessly combines a sassy FMC and a grumpy broody MMC for an explosive duo. While yes the book is significantly steamier than some of her previous work, she doesn't let that distract from the true and emotional plotline of the story. As always be sure to download the bonus epilogue for some extra HEA.

This book was very enjoyable. The ending (which I won’t spoil) has an almost Hallmark feel to it, which as an avid Hallmark movie binger I greatly enjoyed. The age gap didn’t really seem to factor into the plot line as much as the lifestyle differences between the FMC and MMC despite its age-gap tag. I liked that it showed the MMC as having a wide range of emotions, instead of having broody and bossy as the MMC’s only attributes. We really got a feel for the MMC’s emotional turmoil during his conflicts with the FMC.

I found this Lane book to be not as good as Saved by the Brooding Billionaire Mountain Man, but still an entertaining read. The reason I liked this one a little less was because despite loving the relationship between the FMC and MMC, there wasn’t enough of a build up before intimacy and subsequent conversations with side characters, made it sound like they were together much longer than a few days. I’m all for instalove romance but I need the timeline to add up. That being said, who doesn’t love a mountaineer who’s willing to hand build a house and kick ass for you!

This book was well written. The build up of emotions between the MCs was perfect. I wish there was a little more info about MMCs past, but he was just so sweet and adorable that it didn't need to be expanded on for the story to work. This book was a lot steamier than I thought it would be so if you're looking for a low jalapeño rating, beware. Be sure to download the bonus chapter linked at the end of the book.

Touched by the Mature Mountain Man

By: Rica Lane

As always Rica Lane manages to combine sexy, sweet, and sassy together for an emotional instalove romance. Packed with intensity and feeling this story fits perfectly with the rest of the series. Don't forget to download the bonus epilog for some extra feels.

Praised by the Lumberjack

By: Celia Skye

This book was really enjoyable. I wish there was more build up with the characters emotionally and more shown of their relationship but what was given was sweet. Definitely steamier than I thought it was going to be despite the disclaimer, but my steam radar may be broken. All in all a sweet instalove romance with a supportive and adorable mountain man. And honestly who doesn't love a man in flannel

Bound by Murder

By: Kat Finn

I loved this book from chapter one. Heading into it I was unaware that it was part of a series (my own fault for not looking carefully enough), but was pleasantly surprised that I was able to follow along as if it was a stand alone, fairly well. This book is a satisfying, cozy mystery and feels perfect for a rainy day read.
